Mark's abstractions and impressionist work explore the ideas of energy and rest; peace and strife; yin and yang co-existing and occurring simultaneously in natural phenomena such as windswept night skies or where the rocky shores meet the ocean.

Mark explores depth, layering and balance while creating spatial tensions in his compositions. He explores creating luminosity with the flatness of acrylic paint and mixed media.

Mark Yee's large-scale abstract work concentrates on creating movement and yet capturing the action at a moment in time. Allusions to nature, water and the Midwestern seasons abound, yet the work intends to remain purely abstract. His tendency towards landscapes informs his peaceful abstractions. His work is about balance and having the viewer finding peace for themselves in his paintings.

His energetic brush and palette knife work crisscross the canvas. Lower layers of paint emerge and meld with the top layers, only to retreat or to be overlapped by other layers, bringing the viewer on a journey forward and backward through the layers.
